Many times mothers want to return to school and finish their education, but they just don’t think they can afford tuition, fees, books, and all the rest. President Obama has pushed for college grants and scholarships for moms. Combining that with other available financial aid, you can really go to school and have most of your educational expenses taken care of.

The difference between grants and scholarships versus student loans is that loans have to be paid back. And, they are usually paid back with a pretty hefty amount of interest, making the payments a significant burden after you graduate. Grants and scholarships do not have to be repaid. They are a gift to help with your education. So, of course, these are the better choice, if they are available to you.

Grants and Scholarships Available Through the Federal Government:

The Pell Grant: The one that most people apply for first. It is based on financial need. This will make this grant accessible to most moms who are motivated to go back to school and improve their future and the future of their family. President Obama has recently increased funding to this program and thus the amounts rewarded have also increased.

The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH): This grant is for those who are pursuing a college education in order to enter the teaching profession.

The National Science & Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant (SMART): This grant is available to those studying in the fields of math or science. You receive these grants during your third and fourth year of college.

President Obama is very determined to help moms obtain financial funds to go to college. You should check into any grants and scholarships that you can. There are other ways that you can fund your education, even if you don’t qualify for Obama College Grants For women, there are also privately funded grants and scholarships you could utilize.
