Single Women And Mothers Get $10,000 To Go Back To School Through Obama’s 2009 Scholarship Program
Many mothers are enrolling in college these days because of the ease of tuition assistance through the Scholarship for Moms Program. President Obama has made going to college easier for mothers with his American Recovery and Reinvestment Act which changed the funding and eligibility for government grants, loans, and scholarships. The US Census counts 18.4 million college students in the nation with 70% relying on financial aid. While this aid rarely covers 100% of education expenses, it does make a college degree more achievable for most Americans.
Scholarships are similar to grants in that they are cash awards that do not require repayment. Unlike grants, scholarships are usually granted to students based on a set of standards set by those who donate the money. They fall into 5 categories: merit, need, institutional, sociology, and miscellaneous. The most common are merit based scholarships which are awarded to those who excel in academics, athletics, or the arts. The scholarships for moms program would fall under the sociology category in that it is based on social factors like gender, race, religion, or nationality.
Most scholarships are provided by the private sector. Run a simple web search on keywords based on eligibility or field of study and pages and pages of scholarships will be revealed.
College campuses are another source of scholarship leads. Most school administrators know of available scholarships. The majority of education institutions offer scholarships in order to attract a certain calibre of students.
Local communities also present many scholarship opportunities. Professional, civic, and social organizations, as well as companies, churches, and foundations like to reinvest in their communities by providing a higher education for a handful of locals.
Investigate all options. You and your family deserve it.
